High School Students

Karen a volunteer from Pacifica High School

Many High School students are required to volunteer a pre-determined amount of hours in community service as a condition of eligibility for membership in groups like the National Honor Society. Our Club is a great place for High School Students to perform this service. Our members range in age from 8-18 so there is always a place to assign these fine students. For more information:

Thanks to USA Today for listing the link to the “Bucks For Chucks” site and for mentioning in column today!  The word is certainly getting out about all the fun and very “cool” chucks for our kids!

Thanks to Garden Grove Journal for the article on “Bucks for Chucks”: (read article here)

Jacob with his new “CHUCKS”

Okay, so here’s the story:

I’m a big collector of Converse All-Star tennis shoes (aka Chuck Taylors) – currently I own approximately 150 different pairs of ’em. I am also a board member and volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club of Stanton, which is located in an economically disadvantaged area of Southern California.

Whenever I visit the Club to volunteer, I generally wear a different pair of Chucks; they’re a great conversation piece and the kids get a kick out of ’em. A few weeks back, some of the Club kids were visiting my offices at Time Warner Cable for a tour and on the spur of the moment, I gifted one young man who had always admired my Chucks with a new pair that I happened to have in my car.

After I posted this as my Facebook status and relayed how thrilled the kid was to get a new pair of Chucks, one of my FB friends sent me a message and said they wanted to donate so they too could buy a kid some new shoes. Things just kind of mushroomed from there. So now we’re trying to get as many as these awesome kids as possible new Converse All-Star tennis shoes.

Regarding a donation – every little bit helps, no matter how small you may think it is. The Boys & Girls Club Executive Director is in the process of getting me names and shoe sizes of kids who need some new shoes, and as soon as the money starts coming in, I’ll be off to the Converse Outlet Store to buy these kids a boatload of Chucks! (I’ll also be sending some photos of the kids with their shoes to people who donate, if possible.)

If you would like to donate to Bucks for Chucks we’ve made it easy to donate via Paypal!

If you’re interested and/or have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks!

John M. Borack
