Teen Center
July 2007 - A Gypsy’s Bonfire- 25 of our teens took a trip to Bolsa Chica Beach and enjoyed an evening of football, soccer, volleyball, frisbee, the refreshing ocean waves, the beautiful sunset, and cooking their own hot dogs, and finishing the night with delicious s’mores- it definitely was a night to remember; we all had a lot of fun!
June 2007 - Our RBI Program (Reviving Baseball in the Inner-cities) selected our Club to participate in Cal Ripkens RBI Camp sponsored by the Cal Ripken Foundation. We had four of our players from our softball team got to go to Maryland and participate in softball clinics and the “healthy choices for healthy kids” program that offered curriculum about making good choices. Each player enjoyed a trip worth $2,000 a person; flights, meals, bunks, entertainment, and more! We were in Maryland June 10th-14th and had fun participating in rock climbing, rope course, zip line, canoeing, swimming, pool table, ping pong, full gym, and overall making new friends! The girls got to bring home a sports bag filled with goodies including, two jersey shirts, shorts, pants, a glove, ball, and small souvenirs.
March 2007 we launched our Teen Club Credit Program.
In this program teen members will get credit for the homework they do, volunteering throughout the Club, and teen projects. Teens are responsible for their own folders, filling them out and having staff approve and sign. The teens make their own prize goals; 20 credits would be equivalent to a CD/Movie and 100 credits would be equivalent to a video game.
Taco Bell - Irvine Headquarters
Play Station 3 arrives at the new Teen Center in February 2007, a gift from Taco Bell Headquarters in Irvine. The teens celebrated by having a Taco Bell Night of fun and games. Taco Bell also donated $10,000 to the Teen Center, with $5,000 being used to purchase furniture and books. The other $5,000 is seed funds for the teens to start their own iron on teen shirt business.
RBI Baseball/Softball League - Sponsored by Angels of Anaheim
We have two girl softball teams in the RBI Softball League, a senior and junior team. The girls just had their first game this past week, April 3rd and April 5th. Most of our games will be played at the City of Stanton - Norm Ross Field which is located next to the Stanton Park and Carver Elementary School. All games are on Tuesday or Thursday at 5:15PM to 7:00PM. If you want to see hard work in action come on down and cheer the girls on.
Teens & Staples
Staples has a new way for Club youths to raise awareness of recycling and raise funds too. Our teens are collecting used/empty printer cartridges, any make from any printer. For every cartridge we turn in to Staples we receive $3.00 back. What a deal, if you have any questions you may contact our Teen Director Tim for details.
GRAND Opening - October 26, 2006
We had our Grand Opening of our “new” addition to our Club, a Teen Center. Everyone was invited to this event and all donors were given a Club tee shirt, teen photo and a book of 100 years of Boys & Girls Clubs. We had the Taco Bell “Extreme Machine” serving tacos, burritos and beverage to everyone. Plus, the Club had won the Dreyer’s Slow Churned Ice Cream Block Party, so we had all the ice cream to enjoy. What a GREAT night for all and a dream come true for the teens in the community to finally have a space of their own at the Club.
