This past August, the Boys & Girls Club of Stanton received a $5,000 donation from generous & longstanding partner, the Walt Disney Company. During the company’s May premiere for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Disney made approximately 500 tickets to the premiere available to the public. The tickets were sold for $1,000 each and the tickets sold out in just four days.

We would like to thank the Walt Disney Company for their generous support in helping further the mission of our Club to help youth in need.

2011 Harry Dotson Golf Marathon

We will be playing 100 holes at the Candlewood Country Club, and each hole will benefit the kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Stanton. Does golfing 100 holes sound impossible? It’s not! This tradition was started by a great man, former Mayor Harry Dotson.  He would play from dusk til dawn – 100 holes for the kids! Harry left some big shoes to fill, but we think we can attempt this again.  Sponsoring a golfer can be as little as 50 cents, $1.00, $2.00 or even $5.00 a hole.  We invite you to support this fun event by doing what you can at any level and by coming to have some fun with us! You will be making a real difference in the lives of children in Stanton, and we thank you in advance for your valuable support of our kids.

Sign up Now for Guys Baseball and Girls Softball at the Boys & Girls Club of Stanton. Our league is for teens ages 12-18 years old. We will begin in March and play through June.   We will have games once a week and a practice once a week. Become a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Stanton to play. Players also get to enjoy free field trips to Angel’s games. Players even have a day to practice in the Angel’s outfield at the annual baseball and softball clinics. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim provide gear and Angel logo Jerseys, and are the major sponsor of this league.

So come make some new friends and better your athletic skills.

Angels RBI League Philosophy
     The Angels RBI League, as a partnership of Major League Baseball, Angels Baseball and Boys & Girls Clubs  in Orange County, purposes to use the games of baseball and softball to make a positive impact on the youth of Orange County. The goal is to blend the best elements of each of these organizations to facilitate character development and to encourage positive, healthy, and active life choices.
  The Angels RBI League exists to provide the opportunity to play ball to youth that would not otherwise have the opportunity to play.

Boys & Girls Club members receive tennis shoes

More than 100 children at the Boys & Girls Club of Stanton received new Converse All-Star tennis shoes (aka Chuck Taylors or simply “Chucks”) this week, as part of an initiative called “Bucks For Chucks,” spearheaded by Time Warner Cable’s Director of Community Affairs/Boys & Girls Club of Stanton Board member John M. Borack.

“I’m a collector of Converse All-Star tennis shoes; currently I own approximately 150 different pairs of them,” explains Borack.  “Whenever I visit the Boys & Girls Club to volunteer, I generally wear a different pair of Converse; they’re a great conversation piece and the kids always get a kick out of’em.  Earlier this year, some of the Club kids were visiting Time Warner Cable for a tour and on the spur of the moment, I gifted one young man who had always admired my Chucks with a new pair that I happened to have in my car.”

After Borack posted this incident as his Facebook status and relayed how thrilled the kid was to get a new pair of Chucks, one of his Facebook friends sent him a message and said they wanted to donate some cash so they too could buy a child some new shoes.  “Things just kind of mushroomed from there,” Borack says, nothing that a “Bucks For Chucks” Facebook page was then set up, and donations to the cause started coming in.

“We ended up with more than $1,500 being donated to ‘Bucks For Chucks’ and we decided to purchase as many pairs of Converse tennis shoes as possible for the kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Stanton,” says Borack.  “We ended up with pretty much every child who attends the Club regularly receiving a new pair of shoes, thanks in part to the good folks at Converse giving us a significant discount on our purchase.” 

The kids were thrilled with their colorful new shoes, making comments such as “I’m going to wear these shoes every day” and “I can’t wait to wear these on Christmas!”

Plans are afoot – no pun intended – to possibly expand “Bucks For Chucks” into other Boys & Girls Clubs in the area.  But for now, Borack is content with what has happened so far.

It’s kind of cool to visit the Club now and see nearly every kid decked out in new tennies, but it’s even better to hear all the ‘thank you’s’ and be on the receiving end of a lot of hugs,” Borack said.
